Ask asyncmate
Ask asyncmate answers questions about your team's check-ins. The AI reads what people wrote and the blocker list, and every answer quotes the check-in answers it came from, so you can check each claim before you act on it. Ask is part of Pro.
Ask on the web
Workspace owners open Ask in the sidebar. Type a question, pick one check-in or all of them and a period from 7 to 90 days, then click Ask. The sources sit under the answer, grouped by run, and each group links to the run it came from.
The web page reads every check-in in the workspace. Your questions stay on the page until you leave it; nothing is saved.
Ask from Slack or Teams
Anyone on the team can ask from chat. In Slack, type /asyncmate ask what is blocking the team this week? in any channel or in the bot's DM. In Microsoft Teams, message the bot ask what is blocking us?, or @asyncmate ask … in a team channel.
The answer arrives as a direct message from the bot, with the answers it used quoted underneath. In chat you see only the check-ins you answer or manage, over the last 30 days. A teammate's check-in you aren't part of stays out of your answers, whatever you ask.
What Ask reads
- Check-in answers from the period, newest first, and the blockers tracked from them. When a workspace has more than fits in one question, the answer says how far back it read.
- Never anonymous check-ins, check-ins with AI turned off, polls, hours, kudos or out-of-office days.
- People go to the AI as ids, not names. Their names are put back when the answer comes in.
What Ask won't do
Ask answers from what people wrote. It doesn't rate, rank or compare people, and it doesn't guess how someone is doing; ask for that and it offers to list what they wrote instead. It doesn't add things up either. For counts and trends, the Blockers page does the arithmetic.
The AI can be wrong. An answer that cites nothing says so, and the sources are there to check the rest.
Plans and limits
Ask comes with Pro, next to the AI digest, and stays off on the free plan. While a payment is failing, Ask pauses until it goes through. The AI switch in Billing turns the AI digest and Ask off together.
A workspace can ask two questions a day per paid seat, at least 20 and at most 200. The count resets at midnight UTC. Asking never makes anyone a billable participant: only people who answer check-ins or log hours are.
Privacy
Questions and answers are not stored. A question asked from chat waits in our job queue until the answer is sent, and that queue entry is deleted within 24 hours. The privacy policy has the details, including which AI provider processes the question.
