A Polly alternative for Slack: free polls, anonymous surveys and standups in one bot
asyncmate runs one-tap Slack polls free on every plan, with no creator licences to buy, and a Slack standup bot comes in the same install rather than starting on a paid tier. Polly bills the people who create pollys, on annual plans. The plans, response caps and the standup feature are in our Polly review.
10 votes · one tap · no licence to run it
How is your workload this sprint?
12 responses · names never stored, aggregates only
No creator licences, no seats to hand out
The person running a poll is not a line on your bill. Only the people who answer a check-in or log hours are.
Anyone can post a poll
Type /asyncmate poll in a channel. No seat to assign first, no admin to ask, no licence to buy for the person running it.
Voters are never billed
A poll with two hundred voters costs the same as a poll with two. Voting is not what makes someone a billable participant here.
Standups come in the same bot
Async standups and check-ins run on the free plan for up to 10 people who answer, not as a paid upgrade.

Only people who answer a check-in or log hours are billed. How our billing count works
Where Polly may still fit you better
A fair comparison cuts both ways. Polly goes deeper on survey mechanics, with trivia, quizzes and a richer Q&A, its free plan has no response limit, and it runs on Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet as well as Slack. Because it charges per creator rather than per participant, a single organiser running standups for a large team can also work out cheaper than our per-person rate. If surveys are the main job and standups the side dish, Polly is a strong tool.
Slack polls and surveys FAQ
- Is there a free poll bot for Slack?
- asyncmate runs polls free on every plan, including the free one, and a poll voter is never a billable participant no matter how many people vote. Polly's free plan runs polls too, with unlimited responses and 45 days of results history, though standups and surveys start on their Basic plan at $19 a month billed $228 a year.
- Do poll voters count toward my bill?
- No, on any plan. asyncmate bills $2.50 a month for each person who answers a check-in or logs hours, and voting in a poll is neither. A workspace can run polls for two hundred people and stay on the free plan.
- Are anonymous surveys in Slack really anonymous?
- Names are never stored for a survey response, and results are shown as aggregates only, so nobody including us can trace an answer back to a person. One honest caveat: someone who answers an anonymous survey still counts as a person who took part, so they count toward your active participants. The anonymity is about what gets stored, not about the bill.
- Do I need a licence for every person who creates a poll?
- No. There are no creator licences on asyncmate: anyone in the workspace can post a quick poll straight from Slack, and standups and surveys are set up once from the dashboard. Polly includes one licence on Basic and one on Pro, with extra licences sold separately.
- Does asyncmate run standups as well as polls?
- Standups are the main job here, not an upgrade. Async standups and check-ins are on the free plan for up to 10 people who answer, alongside the polls. On Polly, standups and surveys begin on the Basic plan.
- Can I run a Slack poll without opening a dashboard?
- Yes. Type /asyncmate poll in any channel, give it a question and the options, and it posts with one-tap voting. Results update in the same message as votes land.
