Recognition fails for boring reasons
Not because managers do not care. Because thanking somebody properly costs more effort than the moment allows, and the moment passes.
One line, no form
/asyncmate kudos @nina and the reason. If saying thank you takes a form and three fields, it does not get said.
Public where the work happened
It posts in the channel, so the recognition is seen by the people whose opinion the recipient actually cares about.
Kept, not scrolled past
Every kudos is recorded on the dashboard. At review time there is a record instead of somebody trying to remember March.
It matters more when nobody shares a room
In an office, good work gets noticed sideways: someone overhears the fix, somebody says nice one at the coffee machine. Remotely, none of that happens by accident. If it is not written down, it did not happen, and the person who quietly unblocked everyone gets the same silence as the person who did not.

- How do I give kudos in Slack?
- Type /asyncmate kudos @name followed by what they did. asyncmate posts it publicly in the channel and records it on the dashboard. There is no form to open and no separate recognition app for anyone to install.
- Does it cost anything to receive kudos?
- No. Receiving recognition never makes somebody a billable participant. Billing counts people who answer a check-in or log hours, so a workspace where everyone gets thanked and nobody answers a standup costs nothing.
- Which plan is kudos on?
- Free, up to 20 a month, with 90 days of history. Pro removes the cap and keeps the full history, alongside the AI digest and anonymous surveys.
- Can we see who is getting recognized?
- Yes, on the dashboard. It is also worth looking at who is not: recognition tends to concentrate on the visible roles, and a list makes that pattern obvious in a way scrollback never does.
- Is this a rewards or points system?
- No. There are no points, no leaderboard and no gift-card catalogue. It records that somebody did something worth saying out loud, in public, where they work. Turning that into a scoreboard is usually how it stops meaning anything.
