Ask the AI about your standups, and get the quotes

Ask asyncmate answers questions about your team's check-ins in Slack, Microsoft Teams or the app. The AI reads what people wrote, and every answer quotes the check-in answers it came from, so you can check each claim before you act on it.

Three places to ask, one source of answers

Anyone on the team can ask from chat. The workspace owner can also ask from the app, across every check-in at once.

In Slack

Type /asyncmate ask what is blocking the team this week? in any channel or in the bot's DM. The answer arrives as a direct message, with the check-in answers it used quoted underneath.

In Microsoft Teams

Message the bot ask what is blocking us?, or @asyncmate ask … in a team channel. The answer lands in your 1:1 chat with the bot, sources included.

In the app

Workspace owners open Ask in the sidebar, pick one check-in or all of them and a period from 7 to 90 days. Sources sit under the answer, grouped by run, and each group links to the run.

What Ask reads

  • Check-in answers from the period, newest first, and the blockers tracked from them.
  • From chat, only the check-ins you answer or manage, over the last 30 days. A teammate's check-in you aren't part of stays out, whatever you ask.
  • People go to the AI as ids, not names. The names are put back on our server when the answer comes in.

What it never reads

  • Anonymous check-ins, and check-ins where the AI is switched off.
  • Polls, logged hours, kudos and out-of-office days.
  • Your Slack channels, DMs or files. Ask reads what people submitted to a check-in and nothing else.

Answers from what people wrote, not opinions about people

Ask doesn't rate, rank or compare teammates, and it doesn't guess how someone is doing. Ask for that and it offers to list what they wrote instead. It doesn't add things up either: for counts and trends, the Blockers page does the arithmetic.

The AI can be wrong. An answer that cites nothing says so, and the quotes are there to check the rest. That is the whole reason the sources sit under every answer instead of a footnote saying "AI-generated".

Questions worth asking

  • /asyncmate ask What is blocking the team this week?
  • /asyncmate ask What did I ship in the last two weeks?
  • /asyncmate ask What has anyone said about the billing migration?
  • /asyncmate ask Who is waiting on a review, and since when?
  • /asyncmate ask Which blockers came up more than once this month?

The full guide, including what happens when a period has nothing to read, is in Ask asyncmate in the help center.

Prefer to ask from Claude or ChatGPT?

The same check-ins are available to the AI tool you already use. asyncmate's MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or VS Code read the check-ins you are part of, after a sign-in with Slack or Microsoft. It reads and never writes.

Included in Pro, next to the AI digest

Ask comes with Pro at $2.50 a month per person who answers a check-in, with no separate AI charge. A workspace can ask two questions a day per paid seat, at least 20 and at most 200, and the count resets at midnight UTC. The AI switch in Billing turns the digest and Ask off together.

Asking never makes anyone a billable participant. Only people who answer check-ins or log hours are.

Ask asyncmate FAQ

What is Ask asyncmate?
A way to ask a question about your team's check-ins in plain words and get an answer built from what people actually wrote. The AI reads the check-in answers and the blocker list for the period, writes a short answer, and quotes the answers it used, so each claim can be checked against its source before anyone acts on it.
Which AI answers the question?
A model we choose, host and pay for, the same one that writes the AI digest. There is nothing to set up or pay for separately, and the provider is named in our privacy policy.
Can my teammates see what I asked?
No. Questions and answers are not stored. An answer from chat goes to your own DM. The only thing kept is a daily count of questions per workspace, which is what the limit is measured against.
Does it read our Slack or Teams channels?
No. It reads check-in answers that people submitted to asyncmate, plus the blockers tracked from them. Channel messages, threads, DMs and files are never part of the input.
How far back does it read?
On the web, you pick 7, 14, 30 or 90 days. From chat it reads the last 30 days. When a workspace has more answers than fit in one question, the answer says how far back it managed to read.
How is Ask different from the AI digest?
The digest is pushed: when a check-in's response window closes, a summary of that run posts to the channel. Ask is pulled: you ask a question whenever you want, across runs and across check-ins, and get an answer with quotes. Most teams read the digest daily and use Ask when they need to trace something.
Will it rate or compare people?
No. Ask answers from what people wrote. It won't rank teammates, compare them or guess how someone is doing; ask for that and it offers to list what they wrote instead. It doesn't do arithmetic either; counts and trends are on the Blockers page.
Does asking a question make me a billable participant?
No. Billing counts people who answer a check-in or log hours. Asking questions never adds anyone to the bill. Ask itself comes with Pro at $2.50 per active participant per month, with no separate AI charge.

Ask the question instead of scrolling for it

Standups run free for up to 10 people who answer. Ask comes with Pro, and every answer brings its sources along.
