Poll or survey? They answer different questions
Use a poll when the question is small and public: which day, which option, who is coming. It lives in the channel, everyone sees the tally build, and that visibility is the point.
Use a survey when a public answer would be a diplomatic one: workload, morale, how the last release actually went. Results are withheld until enough people have answered that no single response can be picked out.

- How do I create a poll in Slack?
- Type /asyncmate poll in the channel you want it in, or open Polls in the dashboard and click New poll. Add a question and the options, pick the channel, and asyncmate posts it. People vote with one click and the tally updates in place.
- Is the Slack poll bot free?
- Yes, on every plan, with no limit on how many people vote. Poll voting never counts toward billing, so running polls across a whole workspace does not change what you pay.
- Can a poll be anonymous?
- Yes. Anonymity is chosen when you create the poll; anonymous polls and hidden-until-close results are part of Pro. For longer-form honest feedback, a survey is the better instrument: it hides answers behind a response threshold rather than just detaching a name from a vote.
- Can I see who voted?
- On a normal poll, yes: the results open to show which option each person picked. On an anonymous poll the tally is all anyone sees, including you.
- How is this different from Slack's built-in reactions?
- Emoji reactions work until you need more than a handful of options, want the question to stay readable as the thread moves, or need a tally you can point at afterwards. A poll keeps the question and the count in one message that updates itself.
